Beautiful Swan Valley Idaho

Although you will notice its beauty, you may not notice the signs that say in you have arrived until it’s too late. The city of Swan Valley is nestled, as described by it’s name, inside a deep valley in the far corner of Southeast Idaho. The city itself is just about as small as a place so rural as this should be. With the basic stores and services, but without the traffic, inflated prices, and masses of people.

Swan Valley is one of the closest cities to the Palisades Dam. The Dam holds back millions of gallons of water, and is located at the head of the South Fork of the Snake River. Tens of thousands of people take to the river every year to enjoy world class floating and fishing. Fly fisherman come from all over the world to enjoy what these rivers in Idaho have to offer. Of course, all of the other fun activities that come with warm water and sunshine accompany the fishing scene. Obviously, lure fishing and live bait fishing flourishes here just like almost everywhere in Idaho!

During the winter months you have various snow-sports in all directions. Grand Targhee Resort isn’t more than 30 minutes away, if you haven’t heard of this ski hill, check it out! Its one of the best ski hills around. There is also a lot of people who choose to back-country snowboard down the ‘Jackson Pass’. You will have to find a local snowboarder to give you the inside scoop, but we can let you know there is ways to get a day full of snowboarding free of charge. Just look for the snow junkies on the side of the road with their thumbs up, you wont be far away!

Year-round camping and sport shooting is enjoyed by many. Camping during the summer months can be very fun, but try to find a cabin or a heated space if you want to overnight in Swan Valley. Snow can come down here by the foot, and many visitors have ended up spending extra unplanned days in the valley. There is certainly worse spots to be stuck in!

Jackson Hole Wyoming also offers a premier ski hill, along with many more restaurant, bar, nightlife options. Jackson is a beautiful getaway for the weekend town, if you haven’t been you need to go!

Swan Valley is not far from Idaho Falls, which is a central hub for shopping, entertainment, and food. However you are much closer to areas in Wyoming when in Swan Valley. Grand Targhee Ski Resort is about 45 minutes away, and offers some of the best ski and snowboard slopes in the world. Consider spending a night in Grand Targhee village for a cozy night in the mountains!

As of the census[2] of 2010, there were 204 people, 92 households, and 66 families residing in the city. The population density was 17.7 inhabitants per square mile (6.8/km2). There were 135 housing units at an average density of 11.7 per square mile (4.5/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 96.6% White, 1.0% Native American, 0.5% Asian, 1.5% from other races, and 0.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.5% of the population.

There were 92 households of which 20.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.2% were married couples living together, 3.3% had a female householder with no husband present, 3.3% had a male householder with no wife present, and 28.3% were non-families. 26.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 14.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.22 and the average family size was 2.67.

The median age in the city was 47.8 years. 18.1% of residents were under the age of 18; 4.4% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 21.5% were from 25 to 44; 35.3% were from 45 to 64; and 20.6% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 50.0% male and 50.0% female.
